MY FAVORITES

-

Hi, I want to share with you a list of my favorite movies, TV shows, books, music, and games! That way, I’ll let you get to know me better. Have fun!

MY FAVORITE GAMES

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Hearts of Stone, Blood and Wine expansions

The love for The Witcher seems to be in the blood of Polish gamers. I am one of them. My first encounter with The Witcher was in 2015 during the release of the expansion The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone, and I played The Witcher for the first time in 2016. I fell in love with the game for its atmosphere, excellent storyline, and unique music. The soundtrack from The Witcher and its two expansions is still on my list of favorites and, in my opinion, one of the best ever created for a game. As for the expansions, I love both, but I consider "Hearts of Stone" to be better due to its dark atmosphere and mysterious antagonist, Gaunter O'Dimm (Master Mirror). I encourage everyone who enjoyed the game to read the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, on which the game is based. As for the Netflix series, I only liked the first season. I haven't even watched the third one.

Cyberpunk 2077

I remember the release of Cyberpunk 2077 like it was yesterday. I was eagerly awaiting the game not only because it was created by the studio that developed "The Witcher" series, but also because the cyberpunk world was completely unfamiliar to me before. I expected to immerse myself in this complex and detailed, yet unknown world for many hours. I wasn't disappointed. Cyberpunk offers a great story that makes you reflect, which is exactly the kind of narrative I enjoy the most. Moreover, the game is still being supported and improved by the developers. A new expansion was recently released, which I plan to play once I upgrade my computer.

Marvel's Spider-Man

Spider-Man has been my favorite superhero since childhood, and he still is to this day. It all started with the old cartoon from 1994 that I used to watch as a kid. The mechanics, storyline, and music in the game Marvel's Spider-Man are top-notch, allowing me to truly feel like my favorite superhero. I can't imagine a better Spider-Man game. As a child, I promised myself that one day I would buy a Spider-Man suit, and I intend to keep that promise! ;)

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War

I once thought it would be great to play a game where you build your own army step by step. "Shadow of Mordor" fulfilled my wish with its amazing "Nemesis" system. I loved the game for its system and the fact that it was set in my favorite universe. Although the game's story has only the basics in common with Tolkien's lore, it didn't bother me. I decided to treat the game's plot as a kind of narrative variation, similar to Marvel's "What If" series. The story itself is interesting and imaginative. When I finished "Shadow of Mordor," I thought, "Damn... It would be great to use my own orc army to lay sieges." Then, after a few years, the sequel "Shadow of War" was released, which filled in everything I felt was missing in the previous game. I was allowed to see iconic locations in the game with designs faithful to the movies, something I had eagerly anticipated. As I mentioned, the game's story was created by the developers, and I treated it just as they intended. "A story from fans for fans."

League of Legends

I used to play this game way too much. Much less for a few years now, but I still think it is too much. I wouldn’t recommend this game lmao. I've been playing for years, but mainly I play mid or jungle, sometimes top. My main champions in recent years have been: Vel'Koz (my first main), Zed, Swain, Nocturne, Skarner (before his rework), Kha'Zix, Rek'Sai (before her rework), Bel'Veth, Sett, Mordekaiser, and Pantheon. Back when I occasionally played ADC, I mained Jhin. Currently, I most often play Mordekaiser in the jungle. The highest rank I’ve achieved was Diamond 5, which I reached 4 years ago.

MY FAVORITE BOOKS

The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales

As you can see , I am a big fan of Tolkien's work. It all started with Peter Jackson's films (which I will mention later in relation to my favorite movies). Then I borrowed "The Lord of the Rings" from the school library, and soon after, the first book I received from my grandfather was "The Unfinished Tales." Not long after that, the first teaser for "The Hobbit" films came out, and I decided it was time to read "The Hobbit." Only a few years ago did I finally pick up "The Silmarillion," which, admittedly, is a challenging but satisfying read. Recently, I also started reading "The Fall of Númenor" and "The Nature of Middle-earth."

MY FAVORITE MOVIES

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

I first saw The Fellowship of the Ring on March 4, 2005 (the first time it was broadcast on Polish television) with my mom, who encouraged me to watch it. She was a big fan of The Lord of the Rings and I remember how she couldn’t stop marveling at how perfectly the films were made and how great the story was. I was just under 5 years old at the time, and I treated these movies more like horror films (I was very scared of orcs haha). Over the years, my love for these films grew, and I can confidently say that they have greatly shaped me. These films are and will remain the best thing I have ever watched in my life.

Dune Part One and Part Two

For 20 years, I had no exposure to Frank Herbert’s "Dune" books. I had never heard of them or seen them before. It wasn’t until 2020, when I saw the trailer for "Dune: Part One," which looked absolutely incredible, that I became interested. The film turned out to be just as remarkable as the trailer. Although I frequently heard criticism of the first part – mainly concerning its slow pace and lack of action until halfway through – I personally enjoyed it very much. Perhaps that’s because I don’t use TikTok and haven’t grown accustomed to constant stimulation from short, easy videos. The second part of the film is a completely different story – it offered everything the first part did, but even better and with more action. Many people compared the emotions felt during the premiere screenings of "The Lord of the Rings" in theaters to the sensations evoked by "Dune: Part Two." After watching "Dune: Part Two," I was literally stunned – I felt like the audience of "The Lord of the Rings" must have felt during their first cinema screenings. In the future, I plan to read Frank Herbert’s books to dive even deeper into this fascinating world.

MY FAVORITE TV SERIES

The Rings of Power

When I mention to other Tolkien fans that I really like The Rings of Power, I often see the same reaction as Greta Thunberg's iconic "HOW DARE YOU" moment in their eyes. It's a sad reality that some people seem to actively discourage others from enjoying things and having fun. I really like this show, even while being aware of its flaws. Some people are so enraged by its existence that they seem to forget they can simply... not watch it? Unfortunately, there are internet "creators," ragebaiters, who won’t let people forget about this show, using morally dubious tactics, lies, and half-truths to fuel controversy and monetize the ongoing hate. This was also the case at the beginning with Peter Jackson’s films before they were "canonized." People were just as outraged by the changes and the different vision from their own.

For me, the first season was a major event. That’s why my friends and family, aware of my enthusiasm, came over to watch the premiere of the first two episodes with me. Seven friends, my sister, and my mom. Every week we would get together to watch the new episodes. Everyone enjoyed the show, and everyone was surprised when I told them how much the show is criticized and hated. This year, we plan to do it again, with season two meeting weekly for the new episodes. We’re all really looking forward to it. Some people think that the world depicted in The Rings of Power is not Middle-earth. I have a different opinion, and that’s perfectly fine.

Game of Thrones

Oh dear. I absolutely love Game of Thrones. Although I started watching it quite late, in 2019. I recommend it to anyone who somehow hasn’t watched it yet.
This series features many characters I really like, such as Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, and Daenerys.
I’ve never read the books and have no intention of doing so until George R. R. Martin finishes the story.
However, I consider House of the Dragon to be an average show, but still enjoyable and worth watching.

The Office

The Office saved me during one of the toughest periods of my life. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys silly humor. I identify with Michael Scott. While I might have dark Sauron-themed profiles on social media, the truth is that, in terms of personality, I’m much closer to Tom Bombadil than to the Dark Lord.

Other TV shows worth mentioning: House of Cards, Arcane, F.R.I.E.N.D.S
